Like many Alpaca
farms, Blue Note Alpacas was born out of a love for animals
and the desire for a simpler, independent lifestyle. Besides
the amazing animals, what attracted us to this business,
was the multi-faceted aspect of it. We wouldn't just breed
alpacas, we would train them, show them, travel to seminars
and conventions, visit other farms, market our business,
etc. There are so many different paths you can take. Not
to mention that this is something for the entire family.
Daughters Christine and Nicole love to work with the 'pacas.
About
a year of farm visits, shows, seminars and in-depth research
went into Blue Note before the first animal was bought.
We started with a bred female and a gelding for companion.
As any alpaca owner will tell you, though, you never have
enough! Another female was quickly added. The first cria
was born and we are on our way!
Tom has been
a professional musician since the 1970s and has been fortunate
to be able to earn his living doing what he loves. He
brings his creativity as well as his extensive knowledge
of running a business to the Blue Note Alpacas venture.
Annette has several years of experience working with horses,
which has proven to be invaluable. For the past 15 years,
she has been employed in the real estate industry doing
everything from office management to bookkeeping and finally
graphic design and marketing for the last 5 years.
The name, Blue Note Alpacas, was chosen for several reasons.
In a nutshell, the term "Blue Note" comes from
blues/jazz music and is a note which is "off"
yet still works for the particular song. That seemed to
describe us perfectly. It was also important to combine
our new venture, the Alpacas, with the music, which has
been such a large part of our lives. |
